Pokemon Go

This week, Pokemon Go welcomes more Pokemon to the game! These Pokemon are from the Unova region which you may recognise from Pokemon Black and White games.

The three starter Pokemon from the Nintendo games, Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott are included in the new Pokemon Go update. Other wild Pokemon you’ll find would be Lillipup, Blitzle, Patrat, Pidove and more. Except the steel-type Pokemon named Klink, which will only be available to challenge in raids for now.

As always, there will also be Pokemon available only in certain parts of the world. The Grass Monkey Pokemon named Pansage can only be found in Asia-Pacific, its Fire cousin Pansear in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India whereas their Water counterpart in the Americas and Greenland. You can only find Heatmor in the Western hemisphere and Durant in the East.

The game also introduces the new Unova Stone which you can use to evolve certain Pokemon like Lampent. You can get one of these Stones from Research Breakthroughs.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

In the recent Nintendo announcement of Pokemon Sword and Shield, more Pokemon and rivals were announced.

Weezing and Zigzagoon now have Galarian forms. Galarian Weezing looks like it’s wearing a top hat that’s shaped like chimneys and expels green-coloured gases. Galarian Zigzagoon and Linoone are now black and white and can evolve into a Pokemon called Obstagoon.

There’s also the new guinea pig Electric/Dark-type Pokemon named Morpeko which also looks like Pikachu a little. Morpeko is the only Pokemon that has the ability to execute Aura Wheel. It can also switch between Full Belly Mode and Hangry during battles, where the latter turns it into a full Dark type. Depending on Morpeko’s mode, the Aura Wheel affects opponents differently.

We also meet with new rivals, Bede, Marnie and her fan club Team Yell. Both Bede and Marnie seem to have a secret ulterior motive as they strive to become a Champion. Team Yell on the other hand is a Galarian gang, operating kind of like Team Rocket where they would try to stop the player from becoming Champion. They can even shout and distract you during battles.

Game release date: 15 November 2019
