Hasbro is changing the way you play the classic Monopoly game again—this time, with a voice-activated top hat that plays the role of banker. Yup, that’s Mr Monopoly, or formerly Rich Uncle Pennybags, speaking to you as he manages players’ money.

The game is set to launch on 1st July in the USA and is currently available for pre-order on Walmart. It’s designed for players aged 8 and above, with two to four players playing at a time.

It comes with a top hat banking unit, a gameboard, 4 tokens, 16 title deed cards, 1 Get Out of Jail Free card, 4 reference cards, 8 houses, 12 hotels, 2 dice and a game guide.

It’s cash-free!

What’s different in this electronic game is that players no longer use bank cards or cash. Instead, Mr Monopoly handles everything.

Simply press the button on the top hat and say a command like “Pay rent on Marvin Gardens”. Using voice assistant, Mr Monopoly will then reply and move the payment to the correct player’s account. Don’t fret, it doesn’t connect to the internet.

Faster gameplay

The basic gameplay still stands but with a twist as players land on a forced trade space. This means that you get rich fast and can build property sets quick.

It’s battery-operated

Since it’s electronic, you’ll need batteries to play. The game does come with demo batteries but it may be wise to have replacements on hand. Without batteries, the top hat doesn’t work and you can’t play without it.

Cheaters, begone!

There’s no room for cheating. You can’t even sneak in some extra cash to your account since Mr Monopoly handles all transactions. So if you prefer to play your own way, you should probably stick to the Cheater’s Edition of the Monopoly game.

Though there’s no official word yet when it arrives on our sunny shores, but you can bet that it will soon enough.
