The 90s were a gloriously strange time.

If we were given a chance to relive a decade, we’d definitely pick to do the 90s all over again, even if we couldn’t change anything. It saw the release of multiple influential games (Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Super Mario 64…etc), the original Playstation and the Saturn but best of all, it saw the appearance of the greatest spokesman of all time; Segata Sanshiro, played by veteran Japanese actor Hiroshi Fujioka.

Sanshiro was the face for the Sega Saturn in Japan, appearing in a ton of kickass ads hawking games for the console. Since you’re reading this, we figured you’ve seen them right? If not, hit play on the video above, we’ll wait.

Glorious, wasn’t it? Yeeeeeeeeeeees.

It’s been ages since we’ve heard anything about Sanshiro but he’s about to make a reappearance once more at this month’s SEGA Fes 2019, which will be held from 30 – 31 March. The festival’s going to be at the Bellesalle Akihabara, in Tokyo. Fittingly, part of it is dedicated to celebrating the Sega Saturn’s 25th anniversary.

Men want to be him, ladies to be with him, animals fear him and children love him!

We’re massively disappointed we won’t be able to attend but we’re consoling ourselves by listening to the Segata Sanshiro theme over and over again. You should too.
