With Alien: Romulus coming in the two weeks, the hype machine for the franchise has never been higher in recent years. Perhaps that’s why Survios thought it’d be a good idea to piggyback on that fervor with their new Alien: Rogue Incursion trailer.
Congratulations Survios. It worked.
I’m now intrigued (I was meh about the game previously) and you now have my full attention.
I’m not relishing the fact that it’s VR (I still get the sweaty palms thinking of Alien Isolation in VR) and I don’t think I ever will though. I don’t want to play it because I think I might really die with if I see a xenomorph reaching out for me in VR.
As much as I love xenomorphs, I’m terrified of them.
That’s nothing changing anytime soon. If anything, it might get worse after I play Alien: Rogue Incursion.
Play it I will though…because this time around the game stars Zula Hendricks.
If you’re just a casual fan and haven’t had the time to read the Dark Horse comic series or Titan Books’ awesome novels, you might not know who she is. For those of us who do, it’s an awesome nod to a character that’s super familiar to the hardcore.
Think of Zula Hendricks as a black version of Jenette Vasquez. Tough as nails, take no shit female ex-USMC. She’s also a friend to Amanda Ripley. Yup, that Amanda Ripley. The one from Alien Isolation.
They’ve gone on to team up multiple times in the comics (though not in the books…yet) over the years. Alien: Rogue Incursion looks to be set after all of those adventures though, judging by the tone.
I really don’t know whether Survios is planning to kill off Zula. It sure as hell sounds like she’s been implanted, doesn’t it? Then again, implantation doesn’t necessarily mean death.
Ripley 8 had her queen embryo removed and survived. So did Paul Church from the Aliens: Labyrinth comics (and novelization). It could be the case this time around too, at least if it’s a case of xenomorph impregnation.
Then again, Zula might have cancer or something else that’s terminal.
Whatever the case, enjoy the trailer and get ready for the game to hit this holiday season.
Why not take the time to read up on Zula and what she’s been through?
