Read Time:2 Minute, 21 Second

I’m a huge Alien buff. I first remember watching the VHS of Alien in the 80s (in retrospect, that probably wasn’t a great idea) as a kid of about 4 or 5. It’s was right after watching Evil Dead too…so yeah, the trauma that did to my childhood was probably massive. Then again, that might be also why I love the Alien and Evil Dead franchises so much. Needless to say, Alien: Romulus is my biggest film of the year (with Deadpool & Wolverine a close second).

So when 20th Century Studios released the final Alien: Romulus trailer a couple of weeks ago, I was chuffed!

Having a few days to digest it though…the Alien hardcore fan in me started to ask questions.

Romulus Lab (set on board the Renaissance Station), where Alien: Romulus takes place is operated by Weyland Yutani. Alien: Romulus is set between Alien and Aliens.

See the issue here yet?

Why would Weyland Yutani even bother sending Ripley and the USCM in Aliens if they already had a full lab of xenomorphs? Sure, Romulus Lab is probably get destroyed (I’m assuming the space station its on will go boom) but I doubt that Weyland Yutani would have all its eggs (xenomorph eggs to be precise) in one location.

It doesn’t make sense.

This is a company willing to do anything for a xenomorph sample but isn’t smart enough to have backup labs? Does that track? I mean in What If…? Aliens, Carter Burke (who lives in the alternate reality of the comic) claims that he was the Special Projects Director at the time the marines went to LV-426.

Alien: Romulus

He even claims to have info about the DNA Reflex (that’s what the xenomorph’s ability to absorb the host traits is called). How would he know about it if not for Weyland Yutani having xenomorphs somewhere?

Why then do they let Burke accompany Ripley to LV-426, when they already know what the species is capable of?

If they wanted combat data, surely they’d use a more seasoned squad.

At the very least, they’d have somebody other than Gorman command them. Remember, the LV-426 mission was his second combat drop. You don’t pit xenomorphs against a green commander and hope to get optimal results for your tests.

If Burke already knew the company had its stash of xenomorphs somewhere, I doubt he’d even bother with trying to impregnate Ripley and Newt with chestbursters to get them past quarantine. What’s the point? The company already has all the specimens they’d want!

Now I know that the full movie might explain it all away somehow. Hell, it might even explain it in a plausible way! Till that happens though, I’m just going to sit here and wait and grumble.
