I’ve a love/hate relationship with Overwatch (Overwatch 2). I’d go months not playing, and then relapse back into the hardest of hardcore mode, playing nothing else but the game for hours at a time daily. The latest collaboration, which brings together two of my favourite franchises (that’s Overwatch and Transformers in case you’re still wondering) under one tiny roof…sucks.
It sucks hard.
I can’t begin to describe the amount of suckage that it possess. It’s a black hole!
I understand Overwatch 2 needs a revenue stream. That’s why the game has the premium Season Pass, the skins for sale and the lot. I’ve honestly made my peace with that. Not being able to get everything in the game sucks, but them’s the breaks.
It’s when Overwatch chooses to collaborate with another brand that the bullshit meter starts to sound. That’s when every player knows that the cooler skins will be paid. One Punch Man’s Saitama skin was that way, though thankfully you could still earn Mumen Rider by playing the game normally.
With the new Transformers collaboration, it’s been taken to yet another ridiculous extreme. Now there are no free skins at all. Zip. Nada. Rei. Kosong.
Out of the hundreds (possibly thousands) of Transformers, Blizzard couldn’t deem to have ONE damn skin available for free for the fans? I don’t even mean a skin of a famous character like Optimus Prime or Megatron!
I (and I reckon many others) would settle for a bit player like Hound, Ratchet or even Spike! Anything! Any skin! As long as it’s free and we can earn it by playing, it’s great!
Yet, what do we get?
Player titles, icons and backgrounds.
WTF? This is how loyal Overwatch fans are rewarded? I come back after months of burnout and loss of interest and this is what I’m welcomed back with? Holy shit.
Right now, the ONLY reason I’m still playing Overwatch 2 is because I want to finish the Premium Season Pass that I bought. I don’t want to give Blizzard the satisfaction of getting my money and me just leaving the Seasonal rewards unclaimed. I’d rather hate play, nab everything and then F-off.
This time, it’s very likely that it’ll be for the final time. I love Overwatch, but being nickel and dimed and treated with zero respect by the devs suck.
I miss the days when Overwatch wasn’t free to pay and Jeff Kaplan was in charge. It’s really true what they say. You never realize you’re in the good times until they’re gone.
