With the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield games soon to be released on 15 November this year, new Pokemon and familiar old favourites have been introduced. Amongst these old faves are Pokemon such as Weezing and Zigzagoon taking on different forms in the game.

In the same vein, Pokemon has announced its new anime season, simply calling it “Pokemon”. According to a translation of the official press release, the season will see Ash Ketchum, Pikachu and their new companions travelling the Pokemon World, including revisiting regions featured in past games like the Kanto region (Red/Green games) and the Jouto region (Gold/Silver). The series will debut in Japan two days after the games release on 17 November.

Here’s the full translation of The Pokemon Company’s official press release by a Redditor:

“The new “Pocket Monsters” series that was announced today will of course be set in the Galar region from the video games “Pocket Monsters Sword/Shield”, which will be released November 15th, but also in all the other regions that have appeared in the video games so far, including the Kanto region from the original “Red/Green” games and the Jouto region from the sequels “Gold/Silver”.

In the upcoming anime season, Ash will of course be joined by Pikachu and two new travel buddies, a young trainer named Gou and his Pokemon, Scorbunny.

Ash gets a redesign and is seen holding a new Pokedex device that looks like a smartphone while Pikachu remains his adorable self.

According to the official description, Gou is a 10-year-old boy who wants to catch the Mew that he met when he was younger. Scorbunny on the other hand is a Fire-type Pokemon and is one of the starter Pokemon of Galar in the Pokemon Sword and Shield games.

Since Pokemon from past generations will make their appearance and Gou longs for the Phantom Pokemon, does that mean we’ll also get to see Mew? That’s definitely an exciting encounter to look forward to in the new season!
