The popular Netflix scifi horror series set in the 80s, Stranger Things, has only just concluded its third season earlier in July. Though not without immediately announcing a fourth season following the Season 3 finale.
If you still haven’t seen it, don’t read beyond this point. Unless you’re okay with spoilers.
Where the story ended in Season 3, the show did drop hints as to where it might pick up in Season 4. So it’s no wonder why the newest teaser video says “We’re not in Hawkins anymore”. But what the story will focus on exactly is not revealed yet, neither is the location.
Here’s the Stranger Things 4 teaser:
Created by the Duffer brothers, Stranger Things is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in 1983. The first season is mainly about the disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) who is later revealed to be captured by a monster from an alternate dimension called “Upside Down” while the town experiences weird supernatural happenings. The investigation into his case leads to the discovery of a young girl with psychokinetic abilities who later goes by the names Eleven/El and eventually Jane Hopper (Millie Bobby Brown).
The second season focuses on the characters trying to get back to their normal lives while the third season is the show’s biggest one yet as they battle face to face with the monster Mind Flayer from the Upside Down.

During the end credits of Season 3, there is a scene that I believe will be where Season 4 will pick up from. The scene takes place in a laboratory/prison in Kamchatka, Russia, where two Russian guards walk to a row of prison cells. When one of them stops to open one of the cell doors, the other guard says “No. Not the American.” They then go to the next door and pull out a terrified Russian prisoner before taking him to some caged room. After locking him in there, the guard opens a steel door from where a Demogorgon crawls out and attacks the prisoner.
So with the Stranger Things 4 teaser tagline “We’re not in Hawkins anymore”, it’s possible that the new season will take place in Russia. Story-wise, it makes sense too since the Russians have been involved from the beginning of the Stranger Things series. It would be very interesting to see how the story develops in this direction.
Also, who else isn’t yet convinced that Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is truly gone? At first I thought I was just in denial but after the Russian guard mentioned an American prisoner, I have the feeling that it might be Hopper who somehow escaped death. After a very emotional Season 3 ending, if Hopper turns out to be alive, Season 4 will be another heart-thumping season.
Netflix has yet to announce the release date for Stranger Things 4. Stay tuned!
