CD Projekt Red has released the latest gameplay footage from the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game — and it looks INCREDIBLE!

The main takeaway from the reveal is its unique character customisation and how it impacts the overall main story. How you create your character will affect how you approach every mission. Character creation covers both physical appearance and abilities. These abilities include core attributes and perks.

You start off by choosing your life path. There are three life paths to choose from: Nomad, Street Kid and Corporate.

Here are their official descriptions:

Nomad

Roaming the Badlands, looting scrapyards, raiding duel depots — life on the road wasn’t easy. But growing up in a nomad clan has its perks. Honesty, integrity, and a love of freedom — qualities that few in Night City possess, and no amount of money can buy.

Street Kid

They say if you wanna understand the streets, you gotta live ’em. Gangs, fixers, dolls, small-time pushers — you were raised by them all. Down here the law of the jungle dictates, the weak serve the strong — the only law in which Night City you have yet to break.

Corporate

Few leave the corporate world with their new lives — fewer still with their souls intact. You’ve been there — you’ve bent the rules, exploited secrets, and weaponised information. There’s no such thing as a fair game, only winners and losers.

Each path has its own advantages in the game’s main story and gives your character an interesting backstory.

Not only that, they also unlock special options at important story junctions. The gameplay doesn’t reveal what the exact impact of these special options is, but from the looks of it, I think it’s an option that fits your life path and the kind of thinking only your character could have. And thus it allows you to make realistic choices.

After choosing the life path you want, you can fully customise your character’s appearance and attributes. This includes Body, Intelligence, Reflexes, Technical and Cool. ‘Cool’ refers to your character’s mental state in intense situations, not how they look.

As mentioned in the footage reveal, there are three main archetypes: Solo (combat-based), Techie and Netrunner. But the game doesn’t force you to choose to be only one of them.

This gives you the freedom to choose how your character tackles the missions. You’re given a number of points here to distribute them accordingly, which I’m guessing you’ll gain more as you level up your character. You can choose to give points to every attribute to have your character some skill or ability in all of them. Or you can give points to only a select few. It’s all up to you.

Under “Gear”, you can choose the clothing and weapons for your character. Not sure what types of clothing and weapons are available at this early stage, though.

And of course, you’ll be able to have cyberware implants to have advanced skills. For example, you can get arm blades to climb and fight with.

There’s also a Crafting mode which probably allows you to make weapons or implants. That’s just an educated guess because currently, there’s no info on this.

And finally, you can further customise your character by giving them more skills under each Attribute.

For example, under Body, there are Melee, Athletics, Shotguns and Two-Handed. Each skill will of course give you an added advantage in the story.

To unlock each one, you’ll have to distribute points. Your character will likely gain points as you progress in the game so you can come back to this screen anytime to improve your character’s stats.

So, anyone else already mentally creating their characters right now? No, just me?

The latest gameplay release also finally unveils their biggest secret — Keanu Reeves’ character! Yes, my prediction came true!

Keanu Reeves’ involvement in Cyberpunk 2077 has brought so much delight to everyone who can’t wait to get their hands on the game. Reeves will be playing a character named Johnny Silverhand whom you can choose to either be your ally or enemy.

First off, that name is super cool! And secondly, ally or enemy? Wow! Seems like this game’s main thing really is allowing you to take control of your character’s story and fate. And that’s awesome!

But what’s his story? Watch the video at the end of the article.

The rest of the gameplay footage reveal introduces us to Pacifica, a Night City district that’s filled with gangs. For the purpose of the demo, they showed how the main character V (played by you) will be dealing with two of those gangs who are enemies of each other: The Voodoo Boys and The Animals.

When watching the gameplay, the first three games that pop in mind are Grand Theft Auto, Watch Dogs and Call of Duty. It seems like a combo of the three, especially the hacking and stealth mode parts and the fact that your character gets to ride around on and store vehicles in your own garage.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for preorder and will be released on 16 April 2020.
