Since releasing the first official teaser for the upcoming Frozen sequel, fans have been speculating that Elsa may be getting a new love interest. And it’s a love interest with a female character, something that many have reportedly been petitioning for online with #GiveElsaaGirlfriend when Frozen’s hit song “Let It Go” became an LGBTQ anthem. The rumours began again after a new female character was briefly shown in the sequel’s teaser video.

But according to IGN, Frozen 2’s songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez confirmed that the new film won’t have any romantic interest for Elsa. In fact, the plot is instead focused on another part of her story.

“What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven’t been found before?” Anderson-Lopez explained.

Fans will be happy to know that the main cast will be reprising their roles in the sequel. Though this time, voicing Anna and Elsa’s mother Queen Iduna will be Evan Rachel Wood. Frozen 2 explores why Elsa was born with magical ice powers and the mystery of her and Anna’s parents’ death at sea. So the two sisters, Kristoff and Olaf go on a new adventure to discover the truth of the past.

From the looks of the trailer, the group may meet two new characters (one of which is the female that fans thought would be Elsa’s love interest) along the way and perhaps receive their assistance in some form.

According to Slash Film, the D23 Expo 2019 revealed that Elsa will kind of be disturbed by a mysterious singing voice that will play a key role in the story. As revealed at the panel, this would lead to the first song in the film where Elsa sings, “What do you want? Because you are keeping me awake. Are you here to distract me, so I’ll make a mistake?” If you wanna know the rest of the revealed footage, you can check out Slash Film’s review.

Frozen 2 directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee announced that “there are even better songs” in the film but fans will have to wait.

Frozen 2 comes out in November 2019. No exact date yet.
