In just two days, we’re about to get the next installment in the Life Is Strange 2 series. The episodic adventure video game debuted its sequel last year in September, the second in Jan earlier this year and the third in May. Life Is Strange 2 features a completely different story with its own set of characters from the first series.

If you’re not familiar with the game, it typically explores social topics that tug on the heartstrings through the characters and their self-discovery journey. The gameplay is very much story-based and you control Sean, making choices in various situations that would affect the overall game.

In Life Is Strange 2, the story focuses on two brothers, 16-year-old Sean and 9-year-old Daniel Diaz, who are on the run from the police due to a terrible incident at home. Without their parents, the boys decide to seek refuge in their father’s hometown of Puerto Lobos in Mexico.

Along the way, they would meet different people who either want to help or harm them. And as if that’s not stressful enough, they also discover that Sean has secret powers that he doesn’t know how to control yet.

Check out the official trailer for Episode 4:

I loved the Life Is Strange game and so far for this sequel, I’m enjoying it too. Initially, Life Is Strange 2 received pre-launch criticisms about not including the original cast of characters but after the first episode dropped, it quickly shut them up.

There’s so much to love about Life Is Strange 2, especially the relationship between Sean and Daniel. Despite the stress of being forced to step up as older brother and father figure to his kid brother, Sean does the best he can, given their situation. When they reunited with their maternal grandparents and then quickly had to leave because of the police again, my heart broke for them.

From seeing the Episode 4 trailer, it’s clear to see that things have become a lot more desperate. With Daniel missing, Sean looks lost and frustrated as he searches for him. There’s no doubt that this episode is going to be another emotional roller coaster ride.

But what’s different here is that this is the first time that Sean is alone. Even though we see new characters with Sean in the trailer, Daniel is nowhere around. There have been moments in the past episodes where Sean voices out that he wants to be left alone to do his own thing like any regular teenager instead of constantly looking after Daniel.

Episode 4 is possibly the episode where Sean is truly tested and undergoes a much-needed transformation in his character, like growing from a teenager to a young adult. It might be a huge change to the point where he doesn’t even recognise himself, like he said in the trailer. He is even seen sporting a new shaved head look. It will be a very interesting episode, for sure.

And maybe the cherry on the cake is the mystery character who taps on Sean’s shoulder at the end of the trailer there. If you’ve been paying attention to the game, you might have the same guess as I do. With all the foreshadowing in the past episodes, I’m very sure that the mystery person is the boys’ mother Karen who had left the family after Daniel was born. Plus it’s a woman’s voice that says Sean’s name there so Karen is the most likely choice.

This is the plot twist I’ve been waiting for and I’m so excited to see it unfold in what is perhaps the most important episode of the entire series. But if it’s not Karen, who do you think it would be?

Episode 4 of Life Is Strange 2 comes out on 22 August 2019.
