Making his way to new terrors of the upcoming horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor is Oliver Jackson-Cohen. He will be taking on the role of a new character Peter, a Bly Manor resident who “makes life very difficult to everyone who lives there”. In the show The Haunting of Hill House, Jackson-Cohen played Luke Crain.

Jackson-Cohen now joins Victoria Pedretti who has already been cast as the governess Dani. Also returning to the new season is creator/director Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is the follow-up season of The Haunting of Hill House, except that it will feature an entirely new story, setting and characters. This means fans can expect new horrors in the upcoming season. The concept sounds like the one of the American Horror Story series.

The story

The story this time is based on the 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It is also told by an unnamed narrator.

The basic premise is that a young former governess is hired by a man who becomes responsible for his young nephew and niece after their parents’ deaths but is uninterested in raising them. After the governess starts looking after the kids, she begins seeing figures of a man and woman whom she doesn’t recognise. She deems them as supernatural beings because no one else seems to notice them. Later though, she finds out that the children are also secretly aware of the ghosts.

It would be very interesting to see how The Haunting of Bly Manor use the source material. Though it’s entirely possible that they would modernise the plot and make some big changes, just like they did with The Haunting of Hill House. But who knows? They might just surprise us in the new season. Whichever way it goes, it should be worth a watch.
