The love and sacrifice that mothers put in for their children are so often overlooked, both in fantasy and reality. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, what better to commemorate than some of our favourite mothers in video games? To celebrate moms all over the world, here’s 5 unique mothers in PlayStation games, and why we love them.

1. Morrigan (Dragon Age Inquisition)

Dragon Age Inquisition – Game of the Year Edition / Retails at S$34.90

Raised by Flemeth in the Korcari wilds, Morrigan grew up ostracized from the outside world, and never believed in relationships. That is, until she had a child of her own.

Transforming from a young lady who was bitter and selfish, to a selfless, loving and protective mother of one – it’s undeniable that Morrigan has one of the best character development arcs in recent games.

2. Yennefer of Vengerberg (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Retails at S$62.99

The adoptive mother of Ciri, Yennefer, was born infertile. Despite her struggles, she manages to find a family in Geralt and Ciri.

Though she holds great affection for her family, Yennefer is often calm, collected and aloof on the surface. Though she barely shows hints of the deep feelings that she bears for both Geralt and Ciri, we know that she loves them dearly through her actions. After all, she wouldn’t give her all to join the hunt for Ciri if she didn’t dote on her!

3. May Parker (Marvel’s Spider-Man)

Marvel’s Spider-Man / Retails at S$54.90

We all know the story of Spider-Man, and how Aunt May is the doting and endlessly supportive motherly figure in Peter Parker’s life.

Sweet and kind, Aunt May adopts Peter following the death of his parents. She instilled in Peter the values that she holds dear: to do the right thing whenever possible, and to be kind.

4. Elena Drake (Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End)

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End / Retails at S$26.90

Caring, intelligent and quick-witted, Elena Fisher has it all. It’s not easy being a hardworking wife while supporting your adventure-hungry husband (and even saving him from the occasional hiccup, to boot!) but Elena does it with grace, on top of having a job!

Clearly, all that love and support has done wonders for her family.

5. Freya (God of War)

God of War Digital Deluxe Edition / Retails at S$63.90.

We all have that one friend with an overprotective mother, who thinks they know what’s best for their child. (No offence! Listen to your moms.)

Freya’s that mother in the gaming universe. Her son is her world, and we’re sure that most mothers can relate! Though Freya has her flaws and isn’t exactly the world’s greatest mother, she’s protective, loving and determined. Despite being different from the other mothers on this list, she embodies a very human aspect of a mother’s love, and we love her for reflecting that truth.

A sleepless cryptid with a sweet tooth, who spends most of her free time on the internet. Sheryl loves binge-watching shows on Netflix, Persona 5's Joker, arcades, and all her emotional support K-Pop boys.

  1. I have started reading the Witcher books, and as horrible as she is to everyone else, Yennefer is absolutely adorable with Ciri. Some of my favorite scenes have got to be when you see the deep affection seep through the cracks in her icy facade.
