Konami. If you’ve been a hardcore gamer for the last decade or so, that name will bring forth anger hotter than the heat from a million suns. It’s no wonder. The company, once a favoured darling of the gaming world, is now just a shadow of its former self with barely any games released for consoles in the last few years. It’s a shame too, as it holds many of gaming’s classic I.P.s in its grasp; the likes of Castlevania, Gradius, Zone of the Enders, Silent Hill, Broken Helix, Suikoden and of course, Metal Gear Solid.

After the tumultuous ending to the Metal Gear Solid saga (which saw series creator Hideo Kojima quit to start his own studio) and the lackluster Metal Gear Survive, many (including me) thought that we’d never see another game in the series again.

I’m not getting my hopes up…but things might be changing on that front.

No, Konami’s not announced anything about a new game…but there have been weird rumblings.

Like this one.

That’s weird.

Why create a fictional character (I don’t remember a Tom Olsen at all in any of the games) and then post screenshots from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty?

It’s not just a random account created by some bored (or crazy) fan. It seems to be an official one, as the official Metal Gear Twitter account is also in on it.

Intriguing isn’t it?

Is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty in the works?

The original game did already get its remake in the form of The Twin Snakes, so it does track that Sons of Liberty would be next in line. However, The Twin Snakes came out for the damn Gamecube in the early 2000s (and hasn’t been ported to any other console since) and it’d make more sense to at least remaster that first before moving on…for the sake of continuity and all.

Then again…Konami isn’t particularly big on making sense.

Whatever is going on, I just hope it’s not a buildup to another pachinko Metal Gear Solid game…That’d be damn cruel, even for the people at Konami.
