With the news that Tokyo Game Show 2021 will be held live in the Makuhari Messe, also comes the news that E3 2021 will not be held live. That’s right folks, E3 is still in its death spiral, as this year’s event will only be seen through the magic of the internet.

E3 or the Electronic Entertainment Expo, is an annual gaming tradeshow held traditionally in L.A.

For two years in a row, what was once the premiere gaming event in the world will be held sorely online.

In recent years, E3’s relevance has been steadily declining with the advent of other, more popular conventions like the San Diego Comic Con or the New York Comic Con.

Once a bustling trade show filled with big names (in the 90s), the event has struggled to remain relevant as major publishers have abandoned it in favor of their own shows. Sony, EA, Nintendo…these are just some of the names who’ve opted not to take part in years past…though word is some might be returning to the fold for the online only event.

The best part of it being online is that everything will be free! No fees are being planned for any of the content that will be shown, which is great news for gamers everywhere! I’m really hoping for some awesome reveals here or at TGS! A SEGA lightgun VR compilation perhaps?

Whatever the case may be, E3 2021 will be coming this June 12 – 15!
