Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise has an everlasting fan base that stretches across the world. No matter who you are, you’d probably have played at least one of the games or is a of some of its work. As for me, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII was the game that sealed the deal and made me a fan of the series.
After thoroughly enjoying and reviewing Final Fantasy VII Remake, Sal and I were more than ready for more, but it seems the second part is nowhere in sight. However, things started to look up with a new Final Fantasy in the making.
Final Fantasy XVI is Square Enix’s next big thing, and the only information we’ve got so far regarding the game is a cryptic trailer with incredible gameplay scenes that pretty much got everyone excited!
The World of Final Fantasy XVI.

With the release of the official website for Final Fantasy XVI, we now have a better understanding of what the game entails.
Final Fantasy XVI takes place in a realm called Valisthea filled with massive crystals known as Mothercrystals, that are capable of providing aether. And it has been the sole reason why the land has managed to thrive and prosper for generations to come.
However, nothing last forever; as numerous wars eventually gets waged over the region for control of these mighty crystals. This act ultimately leads to the creation of nations such as the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmekian Republic, and the Iron Kingdom under a fragile peace.
Another significant body of entity in Final Fantasy XVI is the introduction of Eikons. Eikons are basically “Summons” like Shiva and Ifrit that we are quite used to in the world of Final Fantasy, but there is one small difference as to how they are presented in the game.
These Eikons lives within unique individuals called Dominants, who are capable of harnessing their powers. While some embrace these Dominants as royalty, others see them as weapons of mass destruction.
The Characters.

The website only revealed three characters so far and the first one being Clive Rosfield, the main protagonist of Final Fantasy XVI. Clive is the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria and an anointed Shield who is tasked with the duty of protecting his younger brother, the Dominant of the Phoenix. Clive wields the ability to control the flames of the Eikon Phoenix after his brother bequeathed the blessing upon him.
Joshua Rosenfield is the Dominant of the Phoenix, the Eikon of Fire. As the younger brother of Clive, Joshua has nothing but admiration for his sibling and often wonders why he was granted the powers of the Eikon instead of his brother. As a dominant, Joshua is capable of transforming into the Phoenix to protect and defend his country.
The last character on the list is Jill Warrick, who serves as a Ward, that’s meant to maintain the peace and loyalty between the Northern Territories and Rosaria. After spending years of her childhood being raised alongside Clive and Joshua, she is now not only a member of the family but a close confidant of the boys.
The long wait.
After learning more about the world and characters of Final Fantasy XVI, I honestly quite keen on playing this game. Unfortunately, there has not been any official release date for it yet however a big announcement is supposed to revealed be in 2021!
In the meantime, all we can do is to wait patiently and keep an eye out for more information on the website. And if you’re curious to learn more about the game, then click here to visit PlayStation Blog.
