
At the latest Nintendo Direct presentation hosted by planning and development head Shinya Takahashi just a few hours ago, the company announced a whole list of exciting new games for the Switch console, new info on previously announced major titles and new software add-ons to the Switch online subscription service.
We’ve listed down the highlights here for your convenience!
Nintendo Switch Online adds classic games

Nintendo Switch Online has a new portal called Super Nintendo Entertainment System where you can find classic NDS games to play. Switch Online members can play them at no extra cost.
But that’s not all! The Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller itself will be available at USD$29.99 (SGD41.50) via the Nintendo website. This is exclusive to Switch Online members.

Highlights of new Switch games and updates

Overwatch
The crazy popular game of Overwatch by Blizzard Entertainment is finally coming to the Switch console! And it comes with a new way of playing. You can tilt the console in different angles to help you navigate the battle arena, giving you a more flexible and immersive way of controlling your player.
Release date: 15 October 2019.

Super Kirby Clash
Go solo or form a team and go on over 100 quests in Super Kirby Clash! Multiplayer mode allows up to 4 players in total. You can team up on the same system, online or via WiFi on separate consoles.
Each player will choose a character that has a specific role and weapon to aid in the battles. You can change armours that affect stamina, attack, recovery and team meteor. Each quest has its own unique enemy which your team will face.
Aaaaand it’s FREE to start!

Trials of Mana Remake
The original Mana series game first came out in 1995. The third game in the trilogy, Trials of Mana, has now been remade.
In the new game, you’ll get to choose three characters from a cast of six. One will be your protagonist while the other two will be your aid and support. The protagonist of your choice will set the story for your adventure. As each character advances, you get switch their class so that you can upgrade their skills even more with stronger moves and spells. Unlike the classic games, you’ll now get to control full range of movement of all members of your party during battles.

Return of the Obra Dinn
A ship named Obra Dinn vanished in 1803 before reappearing four years later with no signs of its crew members. In this mystery game, you play an insurance investigator for the East India company who must find out the truth behind its disappearance by exploring the ship with only a pocket watch that wields the power of Memento Mortem.
The power allows you to turn back time and see the final moments of each crew member’s soul. Piece together the clues to solve the mystery and report back.
Release date: Fall 2019

A Small Town with a Big Secret
In a town where nobody leaves, you play a boy named Axe who one day has to step up and defend your home against various monsters. The only weapons you have are… ideas! This is a strategy game so you’ll have to choose the right idea to defeat them. You can also get support from fellow townspeople who can aid you in your battles.
Plus, the game’s soundtrack is mostly composed by Undertale creator Toby Fox.
Release date: 16 October 2019 (pre-order available sometime today)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ft Banjo and Kazooie
The third Challenger Pack DLC for the crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be featuring Banjo and Kazooie.
Release date: 5 September 2019

More Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC
The next Challenger Pack DLC will feature Fatal Fury.
With that, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury will be the official fourth fighter in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass. That means, there’s only one more DLC to be added. However, Nintendo surprises fans with the news of additional DLC fighters are under development. So we’ll be getting more than 5 DLC packs.

Luigi’s Mansion 3
The haunted hotel featured in Luigi’s Mansion 3 includes themed floors such as Tomb Suites, Castle MacFrights, Garden Suites, The Dance Hall and a pirate-themed restaurant called The Spectral Catch.
The game also has another gameplay mode where you can play with your friends (up to 8 players total) on a single system. For this, you’ll be split into two teams: Team Luigi and Team Gooigi. The team who can defeat the most number of ghosts, collect the most number of gold coins and break the most targets wins.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield
The much-anticipated Pokemon games finally have new updates.
- Character customisation: You can customise your character’s looks again. This time, there are tons more options for clothings and hairstyles for you to choose from.
- Pokemon Camp: Anytime during your journey, you can camp out at a Pokemon Camp to play with your Pokemon and visit other players’ camps. Bring your Pokemon along and hang out with up to 3 other players and their Pokemon at Pokemon Camp. This of course will improve your relationships with your Pokemon which helps in battles.
- Cook curry dishes: This is an interesting activity to do when you’re at the Pokemon Camp. There are over 100 types of curries to cook. The curry will turn out according to the ingredients you cook with. Ingredients include berries, sausages and pasta. The ultimate goal is to master the art of curry. Lol!
- New Pokemon: Polteageist (ghost type) has a body made of tea that only its trusted trainer can taste) has a special ability called Weak Armour. Cramorant (a bird-like flying/water type) has a special ability called Gulp Missile.
