It’s been a few months since we’ve last seen the official trailer for Dying Light 2. And recently, Techland dropped a 26-minute gameplay demo that featured a whole in-game mission, including some parts you’ll recognise from the first trailer. This time though, you can see how much the zombie action role-playing game has changed.

As you know, Dying Light 2 will be featuring a new protagonist named Aiden Caldwell. The gameplay shows how Aiden’s actions have led to a whole open world called The City to open up. Unbeknownst to him, the consequences also include… awakening a powerful breed of ZOMBIES!

What can Aiden Caldwell do?

The new map of the open world called The City is four times bigger than the original game and has seven distinct regions. To traverse this huge urban world, he’s equipped with a grappling hook and a paraglider. He can explore The City to scavenge scraps and resources to make weapons and new items.

All of which help him fight zombies and human enemies, which is awesome because that’s what Dying Light 2 is more focused on. The grappling hook can be used during melee, which gives you a more interesting combat play. To give it a little challenge, melee weapons aren’t forever as they can be degraded and eventually broken the more you use them.

What really separates this game from its predecessor is that the protagonist you’re playing is infected like everyone else in the city but his virus works differently. His parkour and combat skills are almost Jedi-like, described Techland’s creative director Adreian Ciszewski to Polygon.

“But you can stay without UV light, if you stay in the darkness for a certain amount of time, it’s an opportunity for you.”

Aiden’s infection gives him hidden powers that actually enable him to become more human and even travel and do things that the others can’t.

No release date yet, but Dying Light 2 is expected sometime in the spring of 2020.
