“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial.” That’s what pastor Ellie Mueller (Karen Woditsch) says in the official trailer that just dropped for Girl on the Third Floor.

The upcoming gory horror film is the writing and directorial debut of long-time producer Travis Stevens. It stars former WWE superstar Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn and Sarah Brooks.

The story focuses on Don Koch (Phil “CM Punk” Brooks) who tries to fix up a haunted rundown mansion by tearing it apart to reveal rot behind the drywall, not realising that everything he’s doing has angered its other “occupants”. Koch is described as a failing husband to his pregnant wife Liz (Trieste Kelly Dunn) so the strange happenings, including a mysterious woman’s appearance, at the house affect their relationship too.

According to Den of Geek, the film was shot inside a Chicago suburban home in Frankfort, Illinois, that is said to be haunted. So it seems that Brooks being the star of the film is perfect since he’s known to always be up for anything that allows him to represent his home city.

Brooks is “thrilled” about the opportunity in taking the lead role. He told Deadline, ā€œI’m a longtime personal fan of genre films and this project was an absolute natural fit for me.”

Producer Greg Newman said that he and the team are “thrilled and honoured” to have Brooks in the film. “Phil Brooks has proven his abilities as an actor outside of the ring and is a natural fit for the lead. His range and performance will surely delight and surprise those who know him best from his athletic career.”

Girl on the Third Floor is not only Brooks’ entry into acting, but also the first film under the new production company called Queensbury Pictures.

“After many years nurturing the creative vision of other talented storytellers, I’m both grateful and humbled to receive the support of Queensbury Pictures, MPI Media and all the cast and crew who have crossed the threshold of this very strange, incredibly beautiful and unflinchingly terrifying house,” said Stevens.

The film comes out on 25 October 2019.
