As you know, one of the upcoming Marvel films is The Eternals. It will be directed by Chloe Zhao who’s previously done indie dramas, Songs My Brother Taught Me and The Rider.

According to Zhao, the film will focus on “what it means to be human” even though the lead characters are immortal beings. It will be interesting to see how she brings The Eternals to life on screen, given that Marvel movies tend to be very action-packed and full of special effects.

The film also boasts an all-star cast that includes Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Lia McHugh (Sprite) and Don Lee (Gilgamesh).

The latest update reports that Gemma Chan and Barry Keoghan may be joining as they’re currently in talks with the team.

MCU fans would already recognise Chan as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, despite the blue paint job. So she may be reprising that role. However, some sources told Variety otherwise. It seems like the Crazy Rich Asian star may be playing “a completely different role” in The Eternals instead.

This wouldn’t be the first time an actor had to pull a double duty in the MCU films and TV. Other actors who did it include Benedict Cumberbatch and Clancy Brown.

As for Keoghan, Collider reports that the Irish actor is “in negotiations” for a role at the moment. The role itself is also not known yet.

Based off what’s already been announced, there are still more Eternals characters that have yet to be cast like Sersi, Pixie and Zuras. So Chan and Keoghan could play any one of them. Hopefully the next update will come soon!

The film is set to come out on 6 November 2020.
