Fans of hit action-comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine would be familiar with Cheddar – the adorable corgi belonging to Captain Raymond Hoult (head of police at the 99th Precinct) and his husband.

Unfortunately, Stewart the corgi, who plays Cheddar in the series, has passed away. The news was broken via an Instagram post from Stewart’s owners.

Here’s what it said:

“My precious boy Stewart crossed the rainbow bridge today.

We went to the beach (his favourite place) where he frolicked in the surf and then enjoyed a picnic lunch of In & Out burgers. We basked in the sun and just enjoyed each other’s company. Our veterinarian met us there later, and Stewart went to sleep peacefully in my arms, while listening to the sounds of the ocean.

He was a one in a million kind of dog, he was my supaah staah.”

Though he was a corgi, Cheddar had key moments in Brooklyn Nine-nine – being the ringbearer at Jake and Amy’s wedding, for instance, and being Captain Hoult’s adorable, four-legged secret weapon during one of the precinct’s annual Halloween Heists.

Cheddar even had a whole episode with a plot revolving around him! In that episode, Cheddar peacefully wandered about outside as Jake and Amy were frantically searching for him, having lost him despite being tasked with looking after him on Hoult’s behalf.

Loved by the fans and the show’s cast and crew alike, Stewart will surely be missed. Rest in peace, little doggo.
