16-year-old Storm Reid, who played protagonist Meg Murry in A Wrinkle in Time, may potentially join the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. If she does, she will take on the role of Zoe, the daughter of Floyd Lawton (Deadshot). Besides starring alongside Oprah Winfrey in A Wrinkle in Time, Reid has appeared in many films and TV series like 12 Years a Slave, NCIS: Los Angeles, Chicago P.D. and When They See Us.

So far, there’s no official word on casting Reid in the Suicide Squad sequel from director James Gunn or Warner Bros. Even the details on the role are not made public yet.

As for the role of Deadshot, Elba is reportedly in talks about maybe replacing Will Smith in the new sequel. Smith pulled out because he will be reprising his role in Netflix’s Bright sequel, which is in production this month. So if Reid gets confirmed, she would be joining Elba in the Suicide Squad sequel.

The film is set to begin filming in September and premiere on 6 August 2021, with producers Peter Safran and Charles Roven. Gunn wrote the script to the sequel which is reported to have a “completely new take on the property in which DC supervillains are recruited by the government to carry out secret missions too dirty for the likes of Superman and Batman.”

According to The Wrap, the sequel will strangely also be named “Suicide Squad”. If Gunn is making a “completely new take”, does that mean this new movie is canon? But why is it being called a sequel then? Hopefully, Gunn and his team or Warner Bros would shed some needed light on this soon.

The 2016 film was directed and written by David Ayer. It boasted a star-studded cast featuring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Ezra Miller, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Cara Delevingne and Joel Kinnaman. It made millions in the box office despite fans’ criticisms.

With production scheduled in two months from now, things have been quiet about whether not the other cast members will be returning. At this point, only Viola Davis is confirmed to return as Amanda Waller, the one who recruited the DC supervillains for Task Force X.
