I told myself that I will be taking a break this year from reviewing products since I am starting work full-time as well as giving birth. But two months post-partum and a sister is restless. So when our EIC messaged me to ask if I’m interested in reviewing Huawei’s latest release, Watch D2, I eagerly said, “Yes!”
Huawei recently released their latest itireration of the Watch D, the D2, early this month. We were lucky enough to be sent a review piece and I have been wearing almost everyday for the past two weeks. Smart watches are one of the few tech gadgets that while I am interested in, I cannot justify myself buying. Simply because I have not found one that I actually truly like.
Watch D2 – The Deets
The Watch D2 is currently being retailed for SGD$498 on most online stores. It comes with the charger and two watch straps, size L and size M. It also comes with two colours, the black or the gold. Watch D2 is not just being marketed as a smart watch but as a way to manage your health. One of the major plus points for me the the Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring.
Here’s a summary of what the AMBP is, taken from Huawei’s website:

Huawei’s Watch D2 stands out to me because of the fact that it comes with a blood pressure cuff. All smart watches comes equipped with sensors to measure heart rate and blood pressure but whether or not the reading is accurate, is another matter. Huawei solved this issue by attaching a blood pressure cuff to the existing watch strap to ensure the accuracy of the reading.
This is the Strap-Airbag Unibody. It’s a 26.5mm ultra-narrow mechanical airbag that fits snugly and inflates with ease. I can attest to this as I’ve been using it to take my blood pressure on and off throughout the two week review and it really is comfortable!
Huawei Watch D2 has received the European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR) and China National Medical Product Administration (NMPA) medical device certification. It is not just any run-of-the-mill smart watch! There’s an actual certification to back up it’s accuracy in reading! However, it is still encouraged that you go to the doctor and not just rely on the Watch D2 fully. As explained here:

Let’s move on to the actual review, shall we!
Day-to-Day Use of Watch D2
I am particular with my reviews especially since I come from a consumer’s point-of-view. The pros, the cons and everything in-between when it comes to spending your money on something that we use everyday, in my opinion, needs a daily usage so I can really see how it holds up.
Getting a smart watch is not just like getting a usual watch that just tells the time. Smart watches are to help you with the other aspects of your life. So that’s where the battery life, the notifications and the skin sensitivity (important to me!) comes in.
First, setting it up was really such a breeze. Even though my phone is from a different company, I was able to set up the app and connect it efficiently. The app was also super easy to use and straightfoward. You’re able to see everything at a glance. I also appreciated the fact that I could change the face watch from the app itself.
In the two weeks that I used the watch, I only charged it twice; once at the start before using and once more, one week after using it. I started using it on 4th June, Wednesday at a 100% charge. I charged it again on 12th June, Thursday when the watch hit the 49% mark. Of course, you could take it with a grain of salt and by all means, I encourage it whenever you read a review. But experiencing this, I was impressed with the battery life.

Here’s my disclaimer though; my smart watch notifications is limited only to Whatsapp and calls. I am not an active person so I do not use it to record exercises. If you are an active person and relies more on the smart watch, the battery life might be a little different on you.
The vibration is loud enough to be noticeable and since I am two months post-partum, I did utilise the alarm function to wake me up at 2am every night for my middle-of-the-night pump session. Did it wake me up? Yes, yes it did.
The sleep tracking function was also useful to me as it tracked my sleep patterns. Daily reminders at the start of the day with regards to my sleep was appreciated, however, a mother can never get the appropriate rest. Maybe Huawei should come up with a customisation for their app for parents to alert the watch that it is being used by a parent. So instead of reminding that we need more rest, motivation to continue being a great parent would be nice. Something along the lines of… “you woke up four times to settle your baby, that’s great! You might be tired and sleep-deprived but it shall all soon pass!” At least that’s what I tell myself when I see my sleep records lol.

Lastly, my skin had no reactions to the daily usage, yay! I wore the watch everyday, taking it off only when I showered. With a previous review, my skin broke out in a rash after the fifth day. So as much as I liked the previous unit, I could not continue with it. With this, I am on the second week of use and no sign of any irritation too.
Thus, I have decided, at the writing of this piece, I am buying my own Huawei Watch D2. That is how much I love the watch. In all my previous reviews, I have only ever bought one product after reviewing, which was the BenQ Projector. The Huawei Watch D2 will be my second.
Conclusion
Huawei Watch D2 is not just like any other smart watches in the market. With its Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring, it makes it easier to keep track of my blood pressure and be reassured that it’s accuracy is one of the best. I am also thinking of buying one for my mother so that I could monitor hers as well.
Since I am buying my own, do look-out for any updates from me after a few months of use!
