Vivo loaned us the V40 Lite together with their Vivo V40 (review here).

Vivo launched their V40 Lite recently on the 12th October, the latest in the V40 series. The V40 Lite has three colour finishes; Titanium Silver, Dynamic Black and Dreamy Violet. Singapore so far, when I checked the official website, Shopee and Tiktok, only have the Titanium Silver and Dynamic Black.

When I unboxed the V40 Lite Titanium Silver and the Dynamic Black, I have to admit the Dynamic Black really captured my eye with the way the the light played off the back of the phone. It looked black at certain angles and a very dark blue at the same time.

The Vivo V40 Lite is available from both online retailers (Shopee, Lazada and Tiktok) and also physical stores (Challenger, Best Denki, Popular, NTUC, Courts, Harvey Norman, Gain City and Atrix Mobile). Retailing at the affordable price of SGD $499, the V40 Lite is probably one of the most reasonably priced phones you could get on the market.

Vivo V40 Lite – the deets!

The first thing you are greeted with when going to the Vivo website is this:

The 80W Flashcharge was the first thing that I wanted to test out as Vivo claims that you would be able to reach 80% charge within 30 minutes.

There was a disclaimer, which I shall quote, “This product is equipped with a vivo standard charger which supports a charging power of up to 80W. The actual charging power is dynamically adjusted as the scene changes, and subject to actual use.

The other claim that caught my interest was the 4-year Battery Health and the 4-year Smooth Experience. One complaint that I currently have with most phones on the market is the fact that after 2 years of usage, you have to get a new one as there will inevitably be issues that crop up after 2 years. Why? Why do most phones only have a lifespan of 2 years? Are phone companies deliberately building issues in their phones to crop up after 2 years so that consumers have to buy the newer models??? *conspiracy theory mode activated*

If the V40 Lite is able to have a 4-year lifespan, I congratulate Vivo for having their consumers financial abilities in mind. Thank YOU for being so considerate!

Before we move on to the tests, let’s look at the specifications first. Based on the website, there are slight physical differences between the Silver and the Black. However, everything else is the same. Here are the details:

Let’s move on to the tests!

The Various Tests!

So when I ran the battery test, I made sure to use the given charger to ensure that the test was a fair one. Here’s the video of the test. I used my phone timer to keep track of the 30minutes and started the charge. We started the test at 31% and at the end of 30minutes, the V40 Lite battery has increased to 93%. That’s an increase of 62%, which I believe is satisfactory. Of course, an increase of 80% would mean that the V40 Lite would have reached full charge. However, the result is still acceptable in my opinion.

The next test that I did was the battery life test. The result was about 20hours of battery life. I do believe about it is more than sufficent for an average day of usage. The result for the V40 Lite is quite comparable to every other phone that I have reviewed before!

The work performance result was not very impressive, to be quite honest. In comparison to the Vivo V40 5G that came out together with the V40 Lite, the result is quite a big difference. Whilst running the tests, I initially did run the performance tests at the same time. It was quite obvious that the V40 Lite is running alot slower than the V40 5G. However, let’s keep in mind that the V40 Lite is a much more affordable phone as compared to the V40 5G.

Last test that we ran, was the Wild Life Stress Test. Unfortunately, the result of the test was the lowest compared to all the phones I have reviewed this year. But again, let’s keep in mind that the V40 Lite is retailing at less than SGD$500.

The Camera Test!

As with every phone that I review, a camera test is a need as it is (almost) every consumer’s consideration when choosing a phone. The phone comes with a 32MP Portrait Camera, 8MP 120degree Ultra Wide Angle and 50MP Main Camera. There’s also Vivo’s AI Aura Light, which when compared to regular flash provides 360degree even lighting, 75-times softness and 8-times light-emitting area.

I tried taking a portrait of my daughter using the Aura Light and her immediate response was, “Mama, so bright! My eye pain!” However, the photo did come out bright and even; take a look below. Even so, there does seem to be quite abit of noise in the photo, which I’m not really keen on.

There were caterpillars on the plants outside so, of course, we had to try the camera using them as test subjects. While the initial photo does look pretty acceptable to me, there were some graininess and noise in the photo. I do like the fact that the camera blurred out the background of the photo.

However, the resulting photo when zoomed in, was a big bummer. Check it out.

Last few photos that I took was of the green caterpillar because it did provide a bigger focus for the camera. The camera, unfortunately, focused on the branch instead of the caterpillar. However, I do love how the colours turn out cause it is quite true to life.

Look at the contrast of colours between the brown, black and green. While I’m not a huge fan of the sharpness (it could be better), the colours are pretty decent.

Next up was the night shots on the V40 Lite. While you can admit that the numbers on the opposite block is quite clear, the noise on the photos itself bothers me quite abit. To be fair though, the photos all look fine on the phone itself but it is on the laptop and under scrutiny that these little flaws come up.

Final Thoughts

The Vivo V40 Lite is a phone that would most likely not be on everyone’s radar. However, not everyone is able to afford a phone that is priced in the thousands. For mid-budget phone, the V40 Lite is an acceptable phone that you could get as a spare phone for yourself, a beginner phone for your child or if it’s simply within your budget.

The Vivo V40 Lite has an option for you to specifically tailor the phone for a child. If my children were older, I would probably consider the phones for them actually. It is a foolproof and a straightforward phone to use. There’s not much learning curve while using the V40 Lite, so yeah.

Would I buy the phone for myself? Not really, no as I do have other considerations that I require for my personal phone. Would I buy the V40 Lite as a spare phone, if needed? Yes, in a heartbeat. It’s a reliable and inexpensive phone that you could buy easily, both from physical shop and from online retailers.

The 4-year health claim is also something I hope is true since it would definitely be a value for money for the consumers! Looking forward to more things from Vivo!
