Jabra never fails to impress me when it comes to enterprise productivity products. We at The Technovore have the opportunity to review their latest hybrid working headphone. The Evolve2 65 Flex is the best in class. Let’s get straight in to find out how it fared!

What is the Jabra Evolve 2 65 Flex?

The Jabra Evolve 2 65 Flex is a portable wireless headset that features Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), noise-cancelling microphones, a USB Jabra Link 380 adapter for fuss free connection and flexibility to fold it into a compact shape into your bag or pocket.

Designed and built specifically for professionals, the Jabra Evolve 2 65 Flex has a sleek boom mic with LED indicators to let co-workers know your busy-status. The Evolve2 65 Flex is more compact and equipped with the latest technology in close-fitting memory foam earcups for a better and more comfortable fit.

The Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex comes in black color and has its own wireless charging stand. The Evolve2 65 Flex is available now at Jabra and leading retailers for SGD$ 518.00.

Aesthetics.

The Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex comes in a very compact package which is less than half the size of the Evolve2 75. This showed how much thought had gone into the design and engineering team to really make it a hybrid working product.

Right out of the box, we see the iconic grey velvety carry case which fits the compacted Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex. When fully folded the Evolve2 65 measures only 108mm height x 225mm length x 155mm width.

The Evolve2 65 Flex is made out of Leatherette, PC/ABS plastic, and stainless steel. It feels lightweight at 136g but sturdy. The gunmetal stainless steel and all-black look give it a sleek and professional look. The ear cups are made out of their latest close-fitting memory foam which is quite airy although it sticks to your skin. I would still prefer a more spongy ear cup as my ears start to get sweaty after using it for awhile.

The headband is made from the same material as the ear cups but filled with super-soft foam which sit well on the head and comfortable to use.

The boom arm mic located on the right side was shortened to give it a sleeker look and when retracted it is flushed within the right ear cup. On the right ear cup, you will also find the MS Teams button which allows you to instantly join meetings. The MS Team button also doubles for the answer/end call function. The LED integrated 360 busy light automatically lights up during calls to inform your co-workers that you are on a call.

There are 4 function push buttons on the rear of the right earcup which allows you to mute, increase/decrease volume and play/pause music. While the left ear cup has two push feedback buttons which are the power on/off button and the ANC/HearThrough button.

The main feature of the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex is definitely it’s “Flex” function, although it is mostly made out of plastic the joints hold well when fully flexed. It is easy to operate and can be folded/unfolded within seconds.

Performance.

The Jabra Evolve 2 65 Flex is a professional enterprise headphone for hybrid working. Therefore clarity, comfort and connectivity are important in our tests.

Comfort.

When you put on the headphones, you will notice that the close-fitting memory foam earcups will stick and envelope your ears creating your own enclosed soundscape. Beneath the leatherette is a tiny space between the 28mm speakers and your ear when the air revolves around. This design actually allows a more compact hearing experience.

It works fine in air conditioned locations, however if you decide to bring it out in Singapore’s humid condition you will probably end up with sweaty ears like me.

Audio.

The Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex has an inbuilt 28mm speaker and is supported by SBC codec. On top of the hardware, the Evolve2 65 Flex can be access via the Jabra Sound+ app.

The Sound+ app enhances the listening experience through the use of MySound which tailors the audio to that of your hearing abilities. You will also be able to adjust the music equalizer manually or select from 6 different presets.

Activating the ANC/HearThrough via the app also allows you to choose the level of ANC/HearThrough, which you can toggle via the left earcup. The HearThrough function works pretty well but can be quite distracting if you are working in a busy environment like a cafe. I would usually select the highest level of the ANC while I am outside, it is usually able to block out most noises which allows me to work in peace.

Sound quality is great with good clarity and precision, not only can you use it for work. By syncing it to both laptop and handphone, I am able to transition between phone calls, Zoom/Team calls and listening to music. I got no complaints for the talk and listen function across phone calls and Zoom/Team calls, it worked great from both the perspective of the caller and receiver. Even with a shorter boom mic, the voice was crisp and clear with no lag. I tried it while walking along the river at Marina Bay Sands, although it pickup quite a bit of wind disturbance the receiving end could still hear my voice clearly.

In terms of music it has a good balance in the highs and lows with a clear midrange especially during acapella portions. The only concern is the Bass which I felt was not sufficient when running songs like “Moondance” by Van Morrison.

I had the the Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex for a while and it was my go to headset for my daily activities and work meeting. I would use it while driving too and communicating with Sal (my EIC) on our latest projects. The battery usually would be sufficient for a full day’s activity and when I get back home, I would just place it on the wireless charging stand.

The Bottom Line.

The Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex has all the great functions for work, play and socializing. Plug and play bluetooth adapter, compact size with good quality audio, ANC/HearThrough with adjustable levels to choose from. That’s not all, the design itself is elegant and unlike conventional bulky headsets, it can easily match the users dress code be it T-shirt and jeans or suit and tie. Best of all, it will fit in your pants pocket if required. No doubt this is a really good product, it comes with a matching price of SGD 518.00 which opens a lot of doors to other headsets.
