In celebration of earth week, let’s do a review on an Eco-friendly laptop! Introducing the Acer Aspire Vero, a Green PC made with PCR material for a more sustainable future.

What is the Acer Aspire Vero?

The Acer Aspire Vero is a 14 inch general purpose laptop built with saving the earth in mind.

Our review unit was packing an Intel 12th Gen Core i7-1255U Processor 1.7GHz, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD (Gen 4) with the latest Windows 11 Home 64-Bit installed. It weights just 1.5kg and is available on Acer’s website at SGD1,398.00 while the 8GB version is at a special price of SGD838.00 (was SGD1,298.00) now.

Aesthetics.

The Acer Aspire Vero comes in 3 unique colors, Cypress Green, Mariana Blue and Cobblestone Grey. Our review unit was sporting the Mariana Blue which actually looked like the milkyway in the midnight sky.

This was due to 40% PCR materials that were used to build the chassis of the laptop. Not only does it gives it a unique design, it also made the Acer Aspire Vero more durable. The surface is more scratch resistant and could ensure a knocking force of up to 20kg and drop resistance of up to 28cm.

For the green explorers, this not only gives them the power to travel to more rugged terrains but it also contribute directly to a more sustainable future. Up to 90% of the packing materials are made from recycled materials.

From research, planning, manufacturing and post sales, the Acer Aspire Vero is a constant reminder to all to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R). The R and E tab on the keypad are REversed and highlighted to constantly reinforcing the importance of the 3Rs to the user.

The OceanGlass™ touchpad is made entirely out from ocean-bound plastic which gives it a glasslike texture which is quite sensitive and enjoyable to use. Best of all, it comes with a finger scanner for a seamless login.

The Acer Aspire Vero spots a 14″ FHD IPS display with 100% sRGB and a 1440p QHD webcam featuring Acer PurifiedView™ and Acer PurifiedVoice™ with AI noise reduction sits at the top center of the screen.

As for port connectivity, the Acer Aspire Vero comes with two type-A USB 3.2 ports (one on each side) a Kensington lock slot on the right and a USB C/Thunderbolt 4 port on the left. Flushed on the left you will also find the AC adapter port, HDMI 2.1 video output port and a 3.5mm headphone jack port.

Performance.

We ran a 3DMark test using Time Spy and Night Raid to test out the response for gameplay and graphics. The test result was outstanding for a casual laptop, both test yield an above average result which I thought was fair.

I tested the Acer Aspire Vero with casual games like Roblox and CS GO, the details and graphics was on spot with flawless gameplay for Roblox. Especially with the 14 inch full HD display, it was a joy to be able to catchup on some gameplay during work.

Counterstrike Global Offensive CS:GO is my go-to game to destress after a long day of work. Honestly, I was not expecting a smooth gameplay on the Aspire Vero. But the Aspire Vero proved me wrong yet again, gameplay and graphics rendering was smooth. Even when multiple smoke grenades were thrown with AK blasting, the Vero was able to handle them with no issue. Even the sound does not distort with everything happening at the same time!

That being said, games requiring higher specifications will not work well on the Aspire Vero as ultimately it is still a casual work laptop.

The battery life of the Vero was marketed as 12hours after utilizing the battery management app VeroSense™ that manages the energy efficiency through four performance modes: Performance, Balanced, Eco and Eco+. At full charge the Vero was able to get me through basic work, you tube playing on the background and I had about 50% juice left during mid day. So if you are just using it for basic work, it will definitely last you a good 10 to 12 hours. For gameplays and streaming of movies, it will roughly last you 7 to 8 hours.

The Bottom Line.

The Acer Aspire Vero is still a casual laptop for the environment conscious users. I would even recommend companies who are under the BCA Greenmark scheme or any sustainability schemes to get it. Not only does it add to the sustainability score, it is actually a durable and competent work laptop!

TLDR:

Built for the Eco-friendly city nomads.

The Good.

  • Eco friendly.
  • Durable chasis.
  • Good battery life.

The Bad.

  • Price.
  • Overall plastic feel.
