If you’re not from Singapore, the term ‘Majulah Singapura’ might not mean much to you. It’s a term in Malay (Singapore’s original national language) that means Onward Singapore.
As a kid who grew up here, I spent most of youth singing the anthem everybody, at the start of nearly every school day. Every single time, I wish the audio (particularly the words) were better.
Honestly, they used to play the anthem out of cassette tapes (and later CDs), which didn’t do the low fidelity recordings any favors.
That’s not a problem any longer with the newly redone version of the national anthem.
You hear the instruments in the background? In the older versions, the trumpets especially would be deafening, almost to the point of overpowering the song.
Now it’s much more balanced, which is awesome! …Makes me wish I had to sing it everyday again…almost.
