If you didn’t already know, there will be a Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe: The Movie that’s set to come out on 2 September this year. Airing on the network itself, the film focuses on the story taking place two years after Season 5’s finale “Change Your Mind”.

It’s based on the cartoon series Steven Universe so show creator Rebecca Sugar is at the helm of the film and the cast, including Zach Callison, Estella, Michaela Dietz and Deedee Magno Hall, are reprising their roles too.

Cartoon Network uploaded the first teaser last year on their YouTube channel when the film was first announced. But it was only at the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) this year that they released the official movie trailer.

Watch the trailer here:

Fans have reportedly been sending tweets and DMs to the cast members, expressing their mega excitement over the trailer. Dietz, who voices Amethyst, is feeling the nerves from the reaction.

“If that is their reaction now, just from the trailer? Are people going to explode from the actual movie comes out? There’s just gonna be so much excitement it might be unbearable but not. It’ll be great,” she told Den of Geek.

According to Sugar, she had a story that was “too big” for an eleven-minute episode in the series. Hence, the birth of the film. She also promised that everything will be “bigger and better” for the movie.

“The cinematography is big to support the story. The music is so much bigger. The songs are so much more ambitious.”

You can already hear the first song from the film called “True Kinda Love” in the trailer. The full song has also been released. They even performed it at SDCC last month.

After watching Season 5 finale and the upcoming film premiere, fans are concerned about the franchise coming to an end. But rest assured, everyone! Sugar and the series former executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey confirmed with Den of Geek that “Change Your Mind” is only the end to the particular story they began in 2011.

In fact, the finale episode is “a definitive statement on Steven and who he is and what he thinks he is. And how he feels about it. And moving forward from now, it’s going to be different.”

So what can fans expect from Steven Universe post-Season 5?

Both Sugar and Jones-Quartey said, “Everything will be different.”

Jones-Quartey added, “I really hope that if you’re the kind of person who is waiting to watch like more stuff, is that you don’t think of the break between “Change Your Mind” and what comes next, as like, you’re waiting for more of THIS show, because this version of it is done, there’s going to be more, but it’s going to be different and it’s going to be something new. There’s a lot more to do. But, we’re not coming back here, because Steven has really figured something out about himself. So this part of the story, you know, that’s it.”

Sounds like Season 6 will be packing a whole new saga of adventures for Steven Universe! How exciting! Hope we get more news soon.
