Just 12 days away from its world premiere on 19 July, Disney releases another trailer for the upcoming Lion King film via Twitter. This time, it gives fans a preview of the anticipated showdown between Simba and Scar in the final 10 seconds of the video.

Watch the new Lion King trailer here:

The opening quote by Scar “I was first in line until the prince arrives” sets the tone for this new trailer as it gears up for the blood feud between Scar and Simba. The voice of young Simba is then heard, saying, “I’m gonna be the King of Pride Rock!” To which his father Mufasa replies, “Is that so?” And that’s when things get more grim as Scar towers over the hyenas in the cover of night, claiming, “Mufasa has something he never had before — a weakness.” The usurper Scar then convinces Simba to leave the Pride Lands until years later when Nala encourages Simba to return home to his rightful place as king. “If I don’t fight for it, who will?” That’s when the epic showdown commences between the two lions as they fight to be the king of the Pride Lands.

Compared to the first trailer Disney released for the new live-action remake of The Lion King, things are more urgent in the second one as we prepare for the final fight. In the first trailer, it focuses on the glory of being king of the Pride Lands as well as being part of the wild life there, i.e. the Circle of Life. The scenes are also brighter and the background music more inspirational.

Whereas the darker and more sinister parts of the story take centre stage in the second trailer before the video ends with a loud lion roar in the end. This serves as a great buildup to the world premiere of The Lion King happening next Friday.

As you can remember from the 1994 animated film, the fight scene at Pride Rock between the rightful heir to the kingship Simba and his uncle Scar was intense. And from the new trailer, it looks like the upcoming remake will be just as gripping, if not more due to how impressively realistic the live-action adaptation looks.

As if that’s not enough to grab the fans’ attention, Disney also released a new Family Portrait style photo of the talented cast. In the centre of the picture are Donald Glover and Beyonce Knowles-Carter who play adult Simba and adult Nala respectively.

With them on the right side are fellow cast members, Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), John Oliver (Zazu), Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari) and Eric André (Azizi).

On the left side are Billy Eichner (Timon), Shahadi Wright Joseph (young Nala), JD McCrary (young Simba), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa) and Florence Kasumba (Shenzi).

James Earl Jones, who does the voice of Mufasa for both the upcoming film and the 1994 animated movie, is however not present in this photo.

After watching the new trailer and now seeing this photo, I really can’t wait to catch the movie now!
