I’ve talked before about HBO’s Chernobyl. It took me a while to get into but once I did, I was hooked.
I REALLY hope it was the same for you too, because Chernobyl is definitely one of the best docu-dramas to come out in recent years.
Somehow, it manages to effortlessly blend the humanitarian crisis and add in some tension and drama without blowing (heh) the whole thing out of proportion to make it more palatable to the masses.
It’s not dumbed down is what I’m saying.
Chernobyl is impressive (and awesome) enough as it is…but this video by Youtuber Thomas Flight comparing the series with real-life footage shows just how much attention to detail the series took to deliver an authentic experience. Hint: It’s a TON.
Yeah, it’s hauntingly similar isn’t it? From the rooftop where conscripts toss out the radioactive rubble to the briefing of the volunteers to turn on the water pipes…it all looked like how it went down in real life.
I really hope the team behind the series goes on to do one about the Fukushima nuclear disaster too. It’d be mighty interesting indeed.
