You may know the name Makoto Shinkai from his wildly popular film, Your Name (Kimi no Na Wa), from 3 years ago. The director is returns once again with another gorgeous looking film, titled “Weathering With You”.

Watch the stunning trailer for his upcoming film here:

What’s the film about?

The film follows our protagonist, Hodaka Morishima, as he attempts to live on his own in Tokyo for the first time. He eventually finds a steady job, writing for a local magazine that focuses on all things strange and supernatural.

As it would turn out, though, the most interesting thing in the boy’s life is the unusual weather! Rain is pretty common in the city, and no one thinks much of the seemingly never-ending torrential showers. Unbeknownst to all of the city’s residents, though – a young girl, Hina Amano, has the ability to control the weather.

What else can we expect from the film?

From the looks of it, Weathering With You will follow Your Name‘s style of having slight fantasy elements to its story. Apart from that, Makoto Shinkai’s films tend to center around a young, budding romance between the main pair, that usually ends off in a poignant manner. If Weathering With You is going to be anything like his previous films, it will most likely follow this same trend.

Apart from that, audiences can definitely expect gorgeous visuals and animation. Just look at these stills from his previous movies!

The soundtrack for the movie is bound to be good again as well. Radwimps, the same band that did the soundtrack for Your Name, will be handling the soundtrack this time round as well. Given how lovely the soundtrack for Your Name was, we can’t wait to see what they can come up with this time!

Weathering With You is set to release on July 19, 2019, in Japan. While there’s no word about international releases yet, we’re looking forward to what the film has in store!
